For Southerners, certain things are thought to be sacred. When it comes to food, pecking order is determined not by fine dining and fancy cuisine, but by stick-to-your-ribs barbecue.

Kentucky native Joe Abell was a plumber for 32 years. Every time the boys on the job got together for a picnic, Abell was in charge of the food. After years of being prodded towards a career in the restaurant industry, Abell and his wife Judith "took the Plunge" and Big Joe's was born.

We've been open for about eight years now, and we have developed quite the following. The new crown gem of Big Joe's booming catering business is his fully functional smoker trailer. It can feed up to 5,000 hungry guests and is completely mobile. It is the same cooker we have inside only this one is mobile.

Big Joe's also does on-site catering. The Thanksgiving boom caught the Abell's completely by surprise last year. Big Joe's smoked over 300 Turkeys last November and welcomes more orders.
